14 weeks and still counting down!
This week has been crazy and super weird! Probably the most weird
because we had no idea why it was so strange. We had lots of crazy
spiritual experience and we had lots of near death experiences. Just
kidding, mom would have a heart attack but we did have close calls to
danger haha!
Supper CooOOL experience. Retirement homes are so cool!
Today was amazing. First we went to the retirement home to visit some
ladies. A man who was LDS came up to us and said hi and we talked for
a moment. He informed us all the LDS women who lived there and said
they would sure love a visit from the sister missionaries. So we
decided that it would be good with the extra time we have to go visit
some of these ladies. Only one would let us in at the moment. She was
this very elderly women. Very skinny and fragile. It was hard for her
to hear and talk but we have a very powerful experience with her. It
sounds crazy but we felt this lady was very close to death but she was
so happy and laughing so much for the little things she would say or
what we would do. She is losing her memory so she would repeat things
but she is amazing and we just felt the spirit s strong in her room as
we visited with her. When we left we both talked about how powerful
that visit was but we didn’t understand why because it was a very
simple visit we had with her. As I pondered it I felt that as we were
with her we were not the only ones in the room with her. She spoke of
many people in her life and we both felt that she had angels with her
at all times. We could feel it and it was very real to us. Crazy right
but not so crazy when you actually experience it. Then we had a lesson
with this family who was on date for baptism but had to go out of town
and everything blew up after that. We finally got to have a lesson and
it was so powerful. The mom had some concerns and was starting to back
out on us but wanted her kids to be baptized. I was a little upset
then because she knows the truth I knew it and we just needed the
right words for her to recognize it. Now I have no idea how
missionaries do it but we do it with the spirit. Right then when the
moment came I just was filled with the power of the spirit and said
words that I don’t even remember but it was powerful and really caught
her eye. When we are filled with the spirit and recognize that what we
are saying is no longer us but the spirit speaking you know that
things just got a little more real. She was so comforted by the end of
the lesson and agreed to keep going and not worry but to just keep
trying and seeing what happens. It was a true miracle when we left. So
this was for sure the spiritual part of my week!
Miracle that I am still in Oregon
It’s been a rough day today. Satan really got to me. I had a dream
about back home and my past life and it really made my heart ache so
bad I wanted to give up.
I cried for an hour and finally confronted my companion about it since
it was too hard for me to bare alone. We talked about why we were out
on a mission. She reminded me that it's not worth giving up all the
experiences I have had thus far and then giving it all up because it
was too much. She also said that I still have a work to do out here. I
need someone who is in Oregon and someone needs me too. Why would I
give up now if such a great reward is just up ahead.
I then thought of Sarah's comments of why should we give up if giving
up for the Savior wasn't even a option. Why does that give me the
right to stop doing His work. How would I feel if during the atonement
Christ said it's too much I don't love you enough to keep going.
That's what we are saying by giving up on the great work of His. I
love my savior too much to give up. And I want to show my love and
appreciation for all he has done for me.
Deer was not in the head lights!
The other day we were driving back from the church to an appointment.
We were on the highway at the time. And just FYI here in k-falls there
is deer everywhere!
So as we drove all of a sudden on a busy road a deer sprints across
the road and I barely hit the stupid deer butt! It scared me so bad
and the car in the other land was a minivan so whose knows if there
were kids in the car and they were so close to hitting it too!
The spiritual part of it was that right after we knew God was watching
over us so we gave a prayer of gratitude. It really was a true
miracle.
Then the funny part of it was that as we kept driving we thought how
super strange it was that
1. The deer went across a super busy highway which sister stover is
more of an expert on deer being from Utah and said it was so unusual it
went across the road.
2. The deer literally sprinted across which usually they just walk
across. Or Gallup!
3. The deer didn't stop when it saw lights it just booked it across
Like there is no tomorrow.
4. The deer is dumb but that's not strange because they all are pretty
dumb when it comes to crossing roads!
Oh and we recently found out that we are working with someone who is
on some pretty hard core drugs BUT we are determined to help this kid
and it's been kinda sketch but it's been amazing how in tune he is
with the spirit even though he is doing it. So hopefully he will be
able to find the strength to change and turn his life around!
So overall the week has been crazy, all over the place, lots of people
cancel which is life as a missionary. Not many people want to take
time to visit. But thank goodness the elderly like us! It’s been full
of the spirit helping us through these rough times. A mission is hard
but like dad said. It’s the hard things that define us not the easy
things. So I guess this means that I got to do the hard stuff which is
pretty much what i am doing now so I am doing something right!
And to top it off we are still safe here in k falls!
Oh and here is my talk to add. I spoke in church yesterday and it was
a super powerful meeting. The trick to get our peeps to come to church
is tell them you are speaking. We had a lot of people who don’t come,
come to church to hear me and another elder speak and it was so
awesome! I must say it was one of my favorite sacrament meetings on my
mission for how strong the spirit was in the room. So many people
replied that it was a good Sunday to come because what was said was
exactly directed towards them!
Anyways I love you all so much and hope you have a great week!
Love you!
